Small Wood Computer Desk in Maple

The desk was easy to assemble and is quite sturdy. It is an attractive replacement for my old computer desk. I like it a lot,
but it has a few issues. The center panel does not extend to the rear of the desk and leaves an unfinished edge of the bottom shelf exposed. It also leaves a sharp corner of that shelf exposed. The edge on the desktop is a bit sharp and irritated my wrist when I tried to use it for my keyboard and mouse. All other edges on the desk are nicely rounded; it seems like it would have been wise to make this edge rounded too. After finding out that using the desktop for my keyboard and mouse was not going to work, I installed the keyboard shelf and found it to be uncomfortably low (around 23 inches from the floor). So, I drilled another set of holes and raised the keyboard shelf to about 24.5 inches. This was far more comfortable. The keyboard shelf for my other computer desk is 26 inches from the floor which is really comfortable. There is room to raise the shelf another 1.5 inches, but for now, I will use it as it is now.
All this being said, it is a good desk at a good price. I like the desk a lot and would order it again even knowing it had these few shortcomings.

Altra Furniture Hollow Core Hobby Desk in Espresso
- Shopper in
I like having lots of storage space and shelving, and if you're reading this review, you're probably like me. The thing takes a
little while to assemble, but the instructions are easy to follow and all the tools are provided. The desk looks great, and I'm thrilled with the number of shelves. They're handy, and they save space and money that would otherwise be directed to separate shelving. The espresso finish is nice, and doesn't look cheap. My only concern is how durable the desk is. I wish the weight limits (described in the instructions -- 10lbs for most shelves) were given in the product description on the website. I'm sure the low limits are to avoid liability in case someone decides to store their bowling ball collection in the desk, but I have some pretty heavy books. As sturdy as the desk looks and feels, I'm holding back on loading it up as much as I would have liked. All-in-all, I like it, I just wish I could put more faith in it.
