Nexera Furniture 5610 Alegria Student Desk & Hutch
- Shopper in
---Delivery box was heavy and I needed help to assemble it.
---Instructions weren't completely clear.
Some of the sc
rew covers were missing while others wouldn't stay on.
---The safety strap that was included would not reach the wall unless I left no space between wall and desk (need some space for cables and power strip), so I had to buy a longer one at a hardware store.
---Had to purchase brackets to keep hutch secured to desk in case of earthquakes.
---Bottom right has "CD" holders that are outdated and impractical. None of my computer discs or DVD's would fit in the slots so I removed the slots.
---My pc tower has venting on both sides of case, but there isn't enough room for the tower to properly ventilate if put on the bottom right floor tower area.
---Not available in black or dark brown :(
---Large workspace, great for studying.
---Plenty of space for books and dvds on shelves, along with a printer.
---Plenty of space for your computer monitor unless yours is massive.
---Large keyboard slider tray which seems to be hard to find these days -- enough space for gaming keyboard and mouse along with wrist rests for both.
I loved the desk I had in my dorm at college, but that was 10 years ago and the retailer that supplied the college no longer sold it. When looking for a new desk recently, I thought about that college desk and searched all over. I found this one available on multiple websites but it was cheapest here (including shipping). Might buy more furniture from this set. Very happy with purchase.

Butler Specialty Plantation Cherry Wood Writing Desk with Convertible Top
- Shopper in
San Francisco, CA
I am a law professor with a fairly small office and needed a writing desk to place at a 90 degree angle to my computer. This des
k is the perfect size. Not terrible to assemble, except that on one side the holes for the bolts were not drilled large enough to accomodate the head of the bolt, so I could not use the bolts. The metal piece that attached side-to-side seems to hold it together well enough, though, so it was not worth sending it back or trying to use a drill with a router to enlarge the holes. The wood is BEAUTIFUL. The one rather big downside for me is that I want to keep the desk open, with the top flipped up, all the time, and put a plant on the top, etc. However, when the top is flipped open, this operates to slide the desktop toward you, which unfortunately makes it impossible to reach or use the drawers. I had really wanted some drawers, so I am disappointed about that. I think it would be very awkward to have to close the desk up every time one wanted to use the drawers. So just be aware that if you want to keep this desk available as a writing or working surface, you won't be able to access drawers.
